Soberness and Faith
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I
hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His goodness, grace, loving
kindness and tender mercies. He is indeed faithful!
Primary Text
“But we belong to the day;
therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate (corslet) of faith and
love and for a helmet the hope of salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5v8 (AMP)
One of the admonitions we as
Christians are given is to be sober – calm, collected and circumspect. Be of a
cautious disposition, be aware of what is happening. 1 Peter 5v8 (AMP) saying
“Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all
times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in
fierce hunger] seeking someone to seize upon and devour.” Let us therefore be on
guard. We are also encouraged to put on a breastplate of faith and love. The
breastplate covers our heart. We are told that “Now faith is the assurance (the
confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of
things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as
real fact what is not revealed to the senses]…. But without faith it is
impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to
God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of
those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].” (Hebrews 11v1 & 6,
AMP). Hallelujah. We believe in our God, we know that He will come back for His
church, we hold onto His promises that He has given us in His Word. Furthermore,
in Ephesians 6v16 (TLB), we see that through faith, we can put out the darts of
the enemy – “In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the
fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan.”
Supplementary Text
“Then, knowing what lies ahead for
you, you won’t become bored with being a Christian nor become spiritually dull
and indifferent, but you will be anxious to follow the example of those who
receive all that God has promised them because of their strong faith and
patience.” Hebrews 6v12 (TLB)
Prayer
Father, we thank You for Your Word.
We pray that we will indeed be sober and put on the breastplate of faith and
love in Jesus name, amen.
