Support the weak
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“…
encourage the disheartened, help the weak, …” 1 Thessalonians 5v14 (NIV)
“…
comfort those who are frightened, take tender care of those who are weak …” 1
Thessalonians 5v14 (TLB)
“…
encourage the timid and fainthearted, help and give your support to the weak
souls …” 1 Thessalonians 5v14 (AMP)
Here,
the Thessalonicans are not only encouraged to comfort the feebleminded, the
timid and fainthearted, but also to support the weak. Romans 14v1 (AMP) says
“As for the man who is a weak believer, welcome him [into your fellowship], but
not to criticize his opinions or pass judgment on his scruples or perplex him
with discussions.” Beloved, as believers, we are at different levels in our
faith. For those whose faith is still weak, we are told to give them our
support. Deal gently with them. There are certain things we might be assured of
which someone who has a weaker faith might have a different opinion on. As
God’s servant, He is able to help them know what is good and bad. And usually
with time, the issue might be brought up with them and you will be able to
explain to them what you believe is right.
Supplementary Text
“Give
a warm welcome to any brother who wants to join you, even though his faith is
weak. Don’t criticize him for having different ideas from yours about what is
right and wrong. For instance, don’t argue with him about whether or not to eat
meat that has been offered to idols. You may believe there is no harm in this,
but the faith of others is weaker; they think it is wrong and will go without
any meat at all and eat vegetables rather than eat that kind of meat. Those who
think it is all right to eat such meat must not look down on those who won’t.
And if you are one of those who won’t, don’t find fault with those who do. For
God has accepted them to be His children. They are God’s servants, not yours.
They are responsible to Him, not to you. Let Him tell them whether they are
right or wrong. And God is able to make them do as they should.” Romans 14v1-4
(TLB)
