Wholly yours Lord
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on
this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“And may the God of
peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane
things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; …” 1 Thessalonians 5v23
(AMP)
I find it interesting
that the attribute of God which is here used for sanctification is God being
the God of peace. A Psalm 37v8 (NIV) struck me the other day, and it says
“…fret not – it only leads to evil.” The God of peace sanctifying us to Himself
could be that He would give you a rest in Him that causes you to continue to
rely on Him and trust in Him; to require Him as your chief necessity. In this
state of mind we are less apt to fret and move away from Him as our source. We
can stay dedicated to Him. May God make us wholly devoted to Him in Jesus name,
amen. Why do people depart from the living God? Well sometimes things might
look nicer on the other side. But I pray that in every trial of faith, we would
allow the Prince of peace to reign in the situation. May we like the apostle
Paul say – “Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless
gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have put aside all else, counting it
worth less than nothing, in order that I can have Christ,” (Philippians 3v8,
TLB).
Supplementary Text
“You are like an
unfaithful wife who loves her husband’s enemies. Don’t you realize that making
friends with God’s enemies – the evil pleasures of this world – makes you an
enemy of God? I say it again, that if your aim is to enjoy the evil pleasure of
the unsaved world, you cannot also be a friend of God. Or what do you think the
Scripture means when it says that the Holy Spirit, whom God has placed within
us, watches over us with tender jealousy? But He gives us more and more
strength to stand against all such evil longings. As the Scripture says, God
gives strength to the humble but sets Himself against the proud and haughty. So
give yourselves humbly to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
James 4v4-7 (TLB)
Prayer
Father, we thank You
for Your love. We pray from Psalm 73v23-24 that we will be continually with
You, that You will hold our right hands, and keep on guiding us all our lives
with Your wisdom and counsel, and afterwards receive us into the glories of
heaven in Jesus name, amen.
