Text
“And
if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because
of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead
dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your
mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8v10-11 (KJV)
“But
if Christ lives in you, [then although] your [natural] body is dead by reason
of sin and guilt, the spirit is alive because of [the] righteousness [that He
imputes to you]. And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead
dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also
restore to life your mortal (short-lived perishable) bodies through His Spirit
Who dwells in you.” Romans 8v10-11 (AMP)
“And
Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the
Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of
God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised
Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this
same Spirit living in you.” Romans 8v10-11 (NLT)
In
Greek, the word for quicken is “zoopoieo.” It also means to make alive, or give
life. In Genesis, we see the Lord God “commanded the man, … But of the
tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the
day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die (Genesis 2v17). We know Adam
and Eve did eat it, but they did not die physically, but yet they were dead. In
Romans 6v23 we see that the “For wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Sin and trespasses cause us to
die, for it separates us from God. But in Christ “was life; and the life was
the light of men” (John 1v4). And so, if the Spirit of Him that raised Christ
from the dead, dwells in you, your mortal body, is also made alive, or given
life, or quickened by that same Spirit.
Prayer
Father,
thank You so much for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord in
Jesus name, amen.
