A Work Completed

18 September 2010 – A Work Completed

Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for being our refuge, and strength and an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46v1).

Primary Text: Zechariah 4v6 (AMP)
“Then he said to me, This [addition of the bowl to the candlestick, causing it to yield a ceaseless supply of oil from the olive trees] is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit [of Whom the oil is a symbol], says the Lord of hosts. For who are you, O great mountain [of human obstacles]? Before Zerubbabel [who with Joshua had led the return of the exiles from Babylon and was undertaking the rebuilding of the temple, before him] you shall become a plain [a mere molehill]! And he shall bring forth the finishing gable stone [of the new temple] with loud shoutings of the people, crying, Grace, grace to it!

Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundations of this house; his hands shall also finish it. Then you shall know (recognize and understand) that the Lord of hosts has sent me [His messenger to you]. Who [with reason] despises the day of small things? For these seven shall rejoice when they see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel. [These seven] are the eyes of the Lord which run to and fro throughout the whole earth.” Zechariah 4v6-10

In this text concerning Zerubbabel, some lessons can be learnt from there. One of which is God saying it is not by power, or by might (I believe for the work to be accomplished) but by His Spirit. That is, it is not by strength that we prevail, but by God’s Spirit. It also shows that sometimes when there is a work to be done, there would be obstacles to it. Remember Nehemiah. But God was saying here that the mountains will become a plain. The same way we have been told that we are of God, and have overcome them because greater is He that is in us, than He that is in the world (1 John 4v4). We give thanks to God who always causes us to triumph in Christ (2 Corinthians 2v14). We also see grace playing a role here, and we know that His grace is sufficient for us and His strength is made perfect in weakness (1 Corinthians 12:9)

Again, the word of the Lord also came forth that Zerubbabel’s hands that had laid the foundation, will complete the house. God who began a good work in you, may He carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus in Jesus name, amen. Finally, with reason, the day of small beginnings may be despised. But may rejoicing come out of your days in Jesus name, amen.

Supplementary Texts
“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1v6 (NIV)

“He will keep the feet of His saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.” 1 Samuel 2v9

Prayer
Father, we thank You for every work that our hands have found to do and that You have placed in our hands to do. We thank You for Your Holy Spirit and Your grace to carry it out, and we thank You that it will be completed to the glory of Your name in Jesus name, amen.
