In an Abimelech Situation

Hello everyone,

How are you today? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text:
“The one of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him…. Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” (Genesis 18v10, 14).

“And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.” Genesis 20v2

Abimelech, thinking Sarah was Abraham’s sister, out of the innocency of his hands and integrity of his heart took her. A similar situation had occurred in Egypt with Pharaoh (Genesis 12). Again, God intervened, keeping Abimelech from sinning as He saw his innocence, and restoring Sarah to Abraham. God had made a promise to Abraham and Sarah, He had a plan for their lives, and yet an Abimelech situation arose, a threat to that promise. It was familiar, something they had experienced before. However innocent Abimelech was in this, he was still in opposition to God’s plan. Just as Peter “innocently” rebuked Jesus for saying He was going to suffer many things … but Jesus recognizing it for what it was said – “get thee behind Me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” (Matthew 16v23). Sometimes fear may cause us to make certain decisions that may jeopardize our purpose. But remember always that God is greater than any Abimelech or Pharaoh. No matter how innocent the option presents itself, you know what God has in store for you, don’t accept anything less than that.

Supplementary Text
“And the LORD visited Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.” Genesis 21v1-2

Father, my times are in Your hands. Perform that which You have appointed for me in Jesus name, amen. Deliver me from every Pharaoh or Abimelech that would stand in the way of Your purpose for me, in Jesus name, amen.
