Food
Hello
everyone,
Happy
Monday! How are you doing? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God
for another day that He has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Primary Text
“Now
food [itself] will not cause our acceptance by God nor commend us to Him.
Eating [food offered to idols] gives us no advantage; neither do we come short
or become any worse if we do not eat [it].” 1 Corinthians 8v8 (AMP)
“It’s
true that we can’t win God’s approval by what we eat. We don’t lose anything if
we don’t eat it, and we don’t gain anything if we do.” 1 Corinthians 8v8 (NLT)
Food
is good for us. Indeed God created it and is concerned about what we shall eat
and what we shall drink. He says in Matthew 6v31-33 (AMP) “Therefore do not
worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we
going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear? For the Gentiles
(heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your
heavenly Father knows well that you need them all. But seek (aim at and strive
after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and
being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you
besides” and that “[After all] the kingdom of God is not a matter of [getting
the] food and drink [one likes], but instead it is righteousness (that state
which makes a person acceptable to God) and [heart] peace and joy in the Holy
Spirit” (Romans 14v17, AMP). In the verse above, Paul continues speaking to the
church in Corinth about food given to idols. But he tells them, food in and of
itself does not make us win approval from God, it won’t give us any added
advantage. So whether you are eating a particular food or depriving yourself
from it, there is no advantage you get with God. But God is concerned that the
choice of food that you eat does not make your brother to stumble or be hurt or
pained (1 Corinthians 8v9).
Supplementary Text
“One
[man’s faith permits him to] believe he may eat anything, while a weaker one
[limits his] eating to vegetables. Let not him who eats look down on or despise
him who abstains, and let not him who abstains criticize and pass judgment on
him who eats; for God has accepted and welcomed him. Who are you to pass
judgment on and censure another’s household servant? It is before his own
master that he stands or falls. And he shall stand and be upheld, for the Master
(the Lord) is mighty to support him and make him stand.” Romans 14v2-4 (AMP)
Prayer
Father
we thank You for Your Word, and Your provision. We pray that You will show us
Your way of doing things, and that we will walk in Your ways. We pray that we
will walk in love towards our fellow brothers and sisters. And we thank You
that even as we seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, You will take
care of our needs. We bless and appreciate You for all that You have done, are
doing and are yet to do, things we know of and those we are even unaware of, in
Jesus name we pray, amen.
