His Rebuke, Your Reaction

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. How do you receive instruction? What do you do when you are reproved by God? When He tells you, My dear, you have not done well. How do you react?

Primary Text: 2 Chronicles 16v7-10
“And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand. Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, He delivered them into thine hand. For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars. Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.” 2 Chronicles 16v7-10 (KJV)

King Asa was angry at the rebuke from the seer, and even put him in prison. He could have repented, but he didn’t. The Bible records that he even oppressed some of the people at the same time, which is a shame, because initially he was the one who had commanded the people to serve the Lord. What are you angry about today? Is it something you read in the Word? We definitely see a sharp contrast between king Asa’s reaction here, and that of king David, after the LORD sent Uriah to him.

Supplementary Text
“Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in His sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised Me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun. And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.” 2 Samuel 12v9-14

“And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He punishes everyone He accepts as a son.” Hebrews 12v5&6 (NIV)

Are you upset with God today? Why don’t you talk to Him about it?
