A STONE OF STUMBLING

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His goodness, His faithfulness, His lovingkindness and tendermercies towards us. We thank Him even for the trying of our faith, for it is more precious than gold. God is faithful, and good. Hallelujah. The Bible says:

Primary Text
“AND A STONE OF STUMBLING, AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE, even to them that stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.” 1 Peter 2v8 (KJV)

A stone can be useful for building of houses, a very important component in building things. But here, Jesus who is the Stone which the builders rejected, but who was made the head of the corner, is also a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence to those who stumble at the word. 1 Corinthians 1v22-24 says “For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.” The Bible here tells us that for the Jews who require a sign, the preaching that Christ was crucified is a stumbling block. Perhaps you know someone who has been in that same position of disbelief that Christ, the Son of God was crucified for them. On the other hand, the Greeks seek after wisdom, and for them this same message is foolishness. It’s like with the head, one cannot comprehend this Gospel. And so, the Gospel which is the power of God unto those who believe, becomes as stone of stumbling and a rock of offense for some.

Supplementary Text
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND WILL BRING TO NOTHING THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRUDENT. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” 1 Corinthians 1v18-21 (KJV)

Father, we thank You for Your Word. We thank You for Jesus. We pray indeed to the Lord of the harvest, that labourers be sent into the vineyard in Jesus name, amen.
