Colossians 1v9
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. There is a prayer that Paul says they prayed for the Colossians, and is still so relevant today. It was a prayer for them to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.
Primary Text: Colossians 1v9
“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;” Colossians 1v9 (KJV)
“So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.” Colossians 1v9 (NLT)
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,” Colossians 1v9 (NIV)
“Because of this, since the day we heard about you, we have continued praying for you, asking God that you will know fully what He wants. We pray that you will also have great wisdom and understanding in spiritual things” Colossians 1v9 (NCV)
“For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things--” Colossians 1v9 (AMP)
It’s so important that we know the will of God. For instance, we know in 1 John 5v14&15 that if we ask anything in accordance to His will, He hears us, and if we know that He hears us, we know that we have what we desire of Him. Jesus said, His food was to do the will of Him that sent Him and to complete His work. At the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed, … not My will but Yours be done. May we be completely filled with the knowledge of God’s will in Jesus name, amen.
Supplementary Text:
“This is what the LORD says, He who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it – the LORD is His name. ‘Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33v2-3 (NIV)
“And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.” 1 John 5v14&16
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12v1-2 (NLT)
“Jesus said to them, My food (nourishment) is to do the will (pleasure) of Him Who sent Me and to accomplish and completely finish His work.” John 4v34 (AMP)
Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your Word, and ask that I may be filled with the complete knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. May I have understanding and discernment of spiritual things in Jesus name, amen.
