Priests – The Great High Priest.

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. In the Old Testament, we see how priests were chosen to mediate between God and man. A priest doesn’t choose himself to be one. And it is amazing that God chose Jesus to then be our Priest. “But this man, because He continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7v24&25

Primary Text: Hebrews 5v1-10
“Every high priest is a man chosen to represent other people in their dealings with God. He presents their gifts to God and offers sacrifices for their sins. And he is able to deal gently with ignorant and wayward people because he himself is subject to the same weaknesses. That is why he must offer sacrifices for his own sins as well as theirs. And no one can become a high priest simply because he wants such an honor. He must be called by God for this work, just as Aaron was. That is why Christ did not honor Himself by assuming He could become High Priest. No, He was chosen by God, who said to Him, “You are My Son. Today I have become Your Father.” And in another passage God said to Him, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” While Jesus was here on earth, He offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the One who could rescue Him from death. And God heard His prayers because of His deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God’s Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered. In this way, God qualified Him as a perfect High Priest, and He became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey Him. And God designated Him to be a High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5v1-10 (NLT)

As a Priest, Jesus understands our sufferings, because He was also tempted as we are. He has been there. He wants us to come to the throne of grace, where we can receive mercy and grace for our time of need. What is it that you are going through? You have a High Priest who understands. Lean on Him. Depend on Him. Trust in Him. Is your faith failing or waning? Cry out to Him, He understands. Are you finding it difficult to fulfill your purpose, ask Him for help. Jesus also came to a time when He said, “… Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me: nevertheless not My will, but Thine, be done.” (Luke 22v42). He endured being tempted by the devil, being rejected by man. He spent time praying and fasting, He can help you with that too.

Supplementary Text:
“Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest Who has [already] ascended and passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession [of faith in Him]. For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses, and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning. Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].” Hebrews 4v14-16 (AMP)

“For, as we all know, He [Christ] did not take hold of angels [the fallen angels, to give them a helping and delivering hand], but He did take hold of [the fallen] descendants of Abraham [to reach out to them a helping and delivering hand]. So it is evident that it was essential that He be made like His brethren in every respect, in order that He might become a merciful (sympathetic) and faithful High Priest in the things related to God, to make atonement and propitiation for the people’s sins. For because He Himself [in His humanity] has suffered in being tempted (tested and tried), He is able [immediately] to run to the cry of (assist, relieve) those who are being tempted and tested and tried [and who therefore are being exposed to suffering].” Hebrews 2v16-18 (AMP)

Prayer
Father, we thank You for Your Word this day, and for making Jesus our High Priest. Lord Jesus, thank You for being our High Priest in Jesus name, amen.
