If Only

Hello everyone,

How are you on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We bless God for His mercies and His grace.

Primary Text: Psalm 81:8-16
“Listen to Me, O My people, while I give you stern warnings. O Israel, if you would only listen to Me! You must never have a foreign god; you must not bow down before a false god. For it was I, the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things. “But no, My people wouldn’t listen. Israel did not want Me around. So I let them follow their own stubborn desires, living according to their own ideas. Oh, that My people would follow Me, walking in My paths! How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon My hands would be upon their foes! Those who hate the LORD would cringe before Him; they would be doomed forever. But I would feed you with the finest wheat. I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.” Psalm 8v8-16 (NLT)

God here is saying, O that Israel had followed His ways, and walked in His paths. God’s ways are higher than ours, and His thoughts are higher than our own (see Isaiah 55v8&9). He is so wise, and He knows the end from the beginning. If He, who is the Ancient of Days says, don’t go in this direction, trust that that is the direction that you shouldn’t go in. But as we see in the case of Israel, they didn’t want to listen. Are you listening to God today? Is He telling you through His Word to do something, and yet you want to do it in your own way? Eventually, God let them follow their own counsels. But, if they had followed God, HE would have been an adversary to their adversaries. I am reminded of when Achan sinned, and Israel who had just before defeated Jericho, fell before a smaller people, a nation called Ai. It is God who has been faithful to you in time past. It is HE who delivered you from sin and brought you to a position of sonship. For those who have followed God sincerely all this time, don’t relent, especially now. He will never fail you. Circumstances and situations may change, but He is still the same. The God you danced before yesterday, is still working all things together for good to them that love Him and are called according to His purpose. But if you are taking God for granted, restitute your ways. Don’t let Him leave you to your own ideas. And if He has already, He is a merciful God. Go back to Him and repent of your ways. Remember the parable of the prodigal son, where the father took him back in, even after he had gone and squandered his share of his father’s inheritance. God is faithful. Hallelujah!!!

Supplementary Text
“The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the [whole] person; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure and bright, enlightening the eyes. The [reverent] fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even than much fine gold; they are sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is Your servant warned (reminded, illuminated, and instructed); and in keeping them there is great reward.” Psalm 19v7-11 (AMP)

“And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.” Joshua 7v10-13 (KJV)
