Labor not…. To be rich

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Now the Bible mentions in Ecclesiastes 10v19 that “A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things” but we are cautioned about laboring to be rich and the love of money.

Primary Text: Proverbs 23v4-5
“Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.” Proverbs 23v4&5 (KJV)

“Weary not yourself to be rich; cease from your own [human] wisdom. Will you set your eyes upon your wealth, when [suddenly] it is gone? For riches certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.” Proverbs 23v4&5 (AMP)

“Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.” Proverbs 23v4&5 (NLT)

“Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich; restrain yourself! Riches disappear in the blink of an eye; wealth sprouts wings and flies off into the wild blue yonder.” Proverbs 23v4&5 (MSG)

“Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich; be wise enough to control yourself. Wealth can vanish in the wink of an eye. It can seem to grow wings and fly away like an eagle.” Proverbs 23v4&5 (NCV)

Labor not to be rich, children of God. Let money not be the focus of your existence. As we see, money can vanish just like that, and it is gone. The financial crisis can attest to it. What are you laboring for? Do you have a rich relationship with God? Are you waiting till you have amassed enough money then you can favorably have time to settle down and have time for the Lord? The Bible tells us this parable:

Supplementary Text:
“Then someone called from the crowd, “Teacher, please tell my brother to divide our father’s estate with me.” Jesus replied, “Friend, who made me a judge over you to decide such things as that?” Then He said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” Then He told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced many fine crops. He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!” “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Luke 12v13-21 (NLT)

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also]. For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting]. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life [his blessed life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his [blessed] life [in the kingdom of God]? For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory (majesty, splendor) of His Father with His angels, and then He will render account and reward every man in accordance with what he has done.” Matthew 16v24-27 (AMP)

Prayer
Father, we thank You for this day. We thank You for Your Word. We thank You for being our Provider. Father, we pray even concerning Your Word, that You will help us to keep things in the right perspective, that we would not be pulled away from You by money and love for riches. We pray that we will indeed seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, knowing that all these things shall be added unto us. Thank You for Your goodness, Your mercy and love. Keep us from our own lusts, and when You come back, let none of us be found wanting in Jesus name, amen.
