Preserving the Body
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and
bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you
through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly
consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound
and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the
Messiah). “ 1 Thessalonians 5v23
Our God is concerned about our bodies and what we
do with it. One reason being that we belong to Him and our bodies are His
temple. 1 Corinthians 6v19 & 20 (NLT) shows this quite clearly, saying
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives
in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God
bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” What then
should we do with our bodies? Glorify and honor God with them. Make sure every
member – mouth, eyes, ears, legs … glorifies Him. Romans 6v13 (TLB) says “Do
not let any part of your bodies become tools of wickedness, to be used for
sinning; but give yourselves completely to God – every part of you – for you
are back from death and you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used
for His good purposes.” We need to make a decision to give God our bodies, and
to honour Him with it, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, we can achieve this
(Romans 8v13).
Supplementary Text
“I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of
you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your
bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy
(devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable
(rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.” Romans 12v1 (AMP)
