Preserving the Mind
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and
bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you
through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly
consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound
and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the
Messiah). “ 1 Thessalonians 5v23 (AMP)
Man is a spirit, he lives in a body and he has a
soul. The spirit is the part of us that gets born again after we give our lives
to Christ. The soul on the other hand, is the seat of our mind, emotions and
will. Now, apart from the aspect of preservation that connotes protection from
evil and harm, preservation could be to safeguard the purpose or the virtue of
a thing. God will have our souls, and in essence our minds be preserved
blameless till the coming of Christ. I have heard it argued that a lot of the
battle we fight is actually of the mind. Yes, our spirits might be born again,
but we have to do something with our soul, with our minds. Our minds are what
we use to think, reason, argue, study, explore and make decisions – whether
good or bad. For example Pharaoh made up his mind not to let the children of
Israel go (Exodus 9v7); while Daniel made up his mind not to eat the king’s
meat or drink his wine (Daniel 1v8). One’s mind can be cheerful, settled, calm,
undisturbed, applied to instruction, understanding, peaceful or wayward,
double-minded, deluded, evil-minded or crooked. Beloved, what is the state of
your mind? Is it close to God or very far from Him? Isaiah 32v6 (AMP) says “For
the fool speaks folly and his mind plans iniquity:…” However, perfect peace of
mind is possible when you fix your mind on the Lord.
Supplementary Text
“You will guard him and keep him in perfect and
constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on
You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in
You.” Isaiah 26v3 (AMP)
Prayer
Father in heaven, we thank You for Your Word. You
are the One who tests the heart and the mind. Father, please search me and see
if there is any wicked way in me, and cleanse me. Heal any backsliding. I turn
my mind back to You in Jesus name, amen.
