Characteristics of God’s children

“Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love Me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of Myself, but He sent Me.” John 8v42

Jesus once got into a discussion with the Jews, and one of the things He said to them was if God were your Father, you would love Me. Now the Jews had earlier said “… Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s seed, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill Me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham” (John 8v39-40, KJV). Abraham for one believed in God and was called a friend of God. Beloved, are you really a child of God? You might claim allegiance to certain things – I grew up in church, my family is a Christian family, we belong to a particular denomination, we are Abraham’s seed e.t.c. But one thing Jesus makes clear is that if God were your Father, you would love Jesus. You would love His Word, you will obey His Word, you will look forward to His coming, you will recognize that He is God’s plan for salvation and redemption. Do you love the Lord today? Do you love Jesus? Do you seek to please Him? Do you desire to do the works that He did. For indeed, He proceeded forth and came from God. Colossians 1v15 tell us that He is the image of the invisible God. Indeed 1 John 4v1-3 (KJV) says “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.” Beloved, which spirit are you heeding to? Are you saying yes I believe in God, but there are many ways to get to Him, and Jesus is not the way, the truth and the life?
