ONE Baptism
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for seeing us through another week. As believers, even as there is one body, one Spirit, one hope of our calling, one Lord, one faith, there is also one baptism.
Primary Text: Ephesians 4v5
“One Lord, one faith, one baptism,” Ephesians 4v5 (KJV)
Now, we may see different baptisms referenced in the Bible. According to the Dakes Annotated reference Bible, there are 7 baptisms mentioned in the Bible: John’s baptism in water (John 1v31-33); Christ’s baptism in water (John 3v22; 4v1-2); baptism in suffering (Luke 12v50); baptism in the cloud and in the sea (1 Corinthians 10v2); Christian baptism in water (Matthew 28v19, 1 Peter 3v21); baptism into Christ and into His body (1 Corinthians 12v13); and baptism in the Holy Spirit (John 7v37-39, Acts 1v5). According to Dakes, the baptism referred to the “one baptism” referred to in Ephesians 4v5, is the baptism into Christ and into His body, “because it is the only baptism that saves the soul and brings into the body of Christ.” (Dakes)
This one baptism, is one by the Spirit of God, which results in us being buried with Christ, but being raised with Him to a new life. It is one in which we are baptized into the body of Christ, by the Spirit of God, and results in us being clothed in Christ. Because of this baptism, there is now no distinction between the children of God, as we are all one in Christ, and children of God in Him. Hallelujah.
Supplementary Texts
“For by [means of the personal agency of] one [Holy] Spirit we were all, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, baptized [and by baptism united together] into one body, and all made to drink of one [Holy] Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12v13 (AMP)
“For in Christ Jesus you are all the sons of God through faith. For as many [of you] as were baptized into Christ [into a spiritual union and communion with Christ, the Anointed One, the Messiah] have put on (clothed yourselves with) Christ. There is [now no distinction] neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ [are in Him who is Abraham’s Seed], then you are Abraham’s offspring and [spiritual] heirs according to promise.” Galatians 3v26-29 (AMP)
“In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but in a [spiritual] circumcision [performed by] Christ by stripping off the body of the flesh (the whole corrupt, carnal nature with its passions and lusts). [Thus you were circumcised when] you were buried with Him in [your] baptism, in which you were also raised with Him [to a new life] through [your] faith in the working of God [as displayed] when He raised Him up from the dead.” Colossians 2v11-12 (AMP)
Prayer
Father I thank You for calling me Your own, Your very own child. Thank You for the baptism that we have into Christ even by Your Spirit in Jesus name, amen.
