Please Forgive
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text: Colossians 3v13
“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” Colossians 3v13 (KJV)
“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” Colossians 3v13 (NLT)
“Be gentle and forbearing with one another and, if one has a difference (a grievance or complaint) against another, readily pardoning each other; even as the Lord has [freely] forgiven you, so must you also [forgive].” Colossians 3v13 (AMP)
Remember what Paul says in Philippians 3v12-14 about not yet attaining perfection, so the same way, it is not that we are all perfect right now, but we are attaining towards perfection, and on this road to perfection, we may step on each other’s toes, rub each other the wrong way, hurt one another... But let us forgive. The Lord forgave us, so we should forgive others. James 3v2 says “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” This is not to give ourselves an excuse to go about offending others, and saying, well I am not perfect, but let us learn to make allowances for each other’s faults, bearing with one another in love. We can even challenge ourselves and say, can I carry out a godly exercise to not offend in word, and walk in love. One tip, the Bible says – “Understand [this], my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear [a ready listener], slow to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry.” (James 1v19, AMP). That is definitely something we can put in practice.
Supplementary Texts
“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6v14-15
“Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted His raiment, and cast lots.” Luke 23v34
“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3v12-14 (NLT)
Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your Word. Father, I ask for healing today for anyone of us who has been hurt and a release of Your grace to forgive everyone who might have offended us in Jesus name, amen.
