Self-Control

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. The Bible says:

Primary Text
“So brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); … !” 1 Peter 1v13 (AMP)
“So think clearly and exercise self-control….” 1 Peter 1v13 (NLT)
“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, …” 1 Peter 1v13 (KJV)

Paul said “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” 1 Corinthians 9v27 (KJV). Proverbs 16v32 says “Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” Self-control is very important in our Christian walk. In fact, it takes self-control to do a lot of the things God will have us do. Psalm 34v12-13 (KJV) says “What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.” And Proverbs 15v1 says “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” In order to speak life-giving words, soft words, words of grace, it takes self-control especially when one is being provoked. It takes self-control to abstain from all appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5v22), and to flee fornication (1 Corinthians 6v18); telling oneself move now, get out of this situation! In order to study the Word, to pray, go to Church, to live a victorious Christian life, we need self-control. Self-control is included in the fruit of the Spirit, and by the help of the Spirit we can put to death the deeds of the flesh. The Bible says:

Supplementary Text
“For if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually] putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.” Romans 8v13-14 (AMP)

Father, I thank You for Your Word and Your Spirit. I pray that my life be totally and completely yielded and controlled by Your Spirit in Jesus name, amen.
