Being Sober

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. The Bible says:

Primary Text
“So brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); … !” 1 Peter 1v13 (AMP)
“So think clearly and exercise self-control….” 1 Peter 1v13 (NLT)
“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, …” 1 Peter 1v13 (KJV)

Being sober could mean to be “quiet or sedate in demeanor, as persons.” (www.dictionary.com). In light of the hope that we have, and what we look forward to, the salvation of our souls, we are encouraged to be sober, to think clearly and exercise self-control. We need to be sober enough to say, God said this, and that is how it is going to be. God did this, and that for me in time past, He said He won’t fail me, and I know He won’t. One thing about the children of Israel was that they usually forgot what God has done. Thinking clearly may need you to sit back and reflect sometimes, to think about what God has done. It may require being slow to speak, quick to listen, and slow to anger (James 1v19). We also need to be sober because we have an adversary. 1 Peter 5v8 (AMP) says “Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.” When adversity comes, how do you take it? Do you start getting angry at God or with people, or do you recognize that our battle is not against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6v12). Dearly beloved, while we have joy, and rejoice in the Lord, let’s also remember to be “with minds that are alert and fully sober.” (1 Peter 1v13, NIV).

Supplementary Text
“It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to heart. Sorrow is better than laughter, for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better and gains gladness. The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth and sensual joy.” Ecclesiastes 7v2-4 (AMP)

Father, I thank You for Your Word says we have the mind of Christ. May I indeed walk in this revelation in Jesus name, amen.
