In the face of persecution
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Conduct yourselves properly (honorably, righteously) among the Gentiles, so that, although they may slander you as evildoers, [yet] they may by witnessing your good deeds [come to] glorify God in the day of inspection [when God shall look upon you wanderers as a pastor or shepherd looks over his flock].” 2 Peter 2v12 (AMP)
The Bible here is telling us that some whom we live among may call us evil doers. What do we do when we encounter those who don’t like us, misunderstand us, slander us e.t.c. For one, we are here encouraged to live properly, to have good deeds. Also, to be children of God, we have to show love. Matthew 5v43-45 (KJV) says “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” Our Lord Jesus gave us a perfect example when He said – Father forgive them for they know not what they do. (Luke 23v34). Also Romans 12v21 (KJV) says “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Supplementary Text
“They are blessed who work for peace, for they will be called God’s children. They are blessed who are persecuted for doing good, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. “People will insult you and hurt you. They will lie and say all kinds of evil things about you because you follow Me. But when they do, you will be blessed. Rejoice and be glad, because you have a great reward waiting for you in heaven. People did the same evil things to the prophets who lived before you.” Matthew 5v9-12 (NCV)
Father, I thank You so much for Your Word. Father, help me indeed to be a light in this world, and bring glory to You in Jesus name, amen.
