Servants of God

Hello everyone -- How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Primary Text “[Live] as free people, [yet] without employing your freedom as a pretext for wickedness; but [live at all times] as servants of God.” 1 Peter 2v16 (AMP) What does it mean to live as free people but still as servants of God? Definitions of servant include “a person employed by another, especially to perform domestic duties. A person in the service of another. A person employed by the government: a public servant.” (www.dictionary.com). As servants of God, we live as though we are in the employment of God. A servant, a good one, would do what the employer wants them to do, the way they want them to do it. There are times a servant may make a mistake, but usually when corrected by their employer, they do it the way they have been asked to do. Many of us work in organizations and have an employer. There are certain rules of conduct that govern our work place. There are also certain expectations that are required of us by our direct boss. And we seek to obey them. In the same way, let us live our lives in ways that are pleasing to God and glorify Him. Having that fear of God that enables us to depart from evil (Proverbs 16v6). Supplementary Text “Were you a slave when you were called? Do not let that trouble you. But if you are able to gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity. For he who as a slave was summoned in [to union with] the Lord is a freedman of the Lord, just as he who was free when he was called is a bond servant of Christ (the Messiah). You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for by Christ]; then do not yield yourselves up to become [in your own estimation] slaves to men [but consider yourselves slaves to Christ].” 1 Corinthians 7v21-23 (AMP) Father, I thank You for Your Word this day. Thank You for the freedom into which we have been called. Father we pray that we will not use our liberty as a cover up for wickedness but that in everything we do, we will live as Your servants in Jesus name, amen.
