Submission
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in
the Lord.
Primary Text
“In like manner, you married women, be submissive to your
own husbands [subordinate yourselves as being secondary to and dependent on
them, and adapt yourselves to them], …” 1 Peter 3v1 (AMP)
“In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of
your husbands…” 1 Peter 3v1 (NLT)
Submission is still something that many women shrink at or become
defensive about. In an article by Veronica A. Robinson, called Wives, take your
rightful position, which I would encourage you to read at http://www.sarasdaughters.com/articles.html,
she says:
“Submission is not a position we welcome in marriage. It
requires submitting or yielding to the authority or control of another. In the
marriage, who should submit? Why would God require the wife to submit in the
marriage? … First, Who Should Submit? Scripture clearly tells us it’s the
wife’s responsibility to be in subjection to her husband. This does not imply
any kind of natural inferiority on the part of the wife to her husband. In
marriage, two people become one. Therefore, there are two intellects, two sets
of emotions, and two wills that have been joined to constitute one. To keep the
union from fracturing and destroying itself, one of these persons is charged
with leadership in the relationship, and one is charged with submission. So
wives submit to your husband as unto the Lord. This pleases God and it will
make submitting a lot easier to do.”
I read a commentary about God making the woman, where
Genesis 2v21-22 (KJV) says “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon
Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh
instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made He a
woman, and brought her unto the man.” The commentary went along the lines of
the woman was not taken out of man’s head, to be lord over him; or from his
feet, to be trampled by him; but from his side, to be equal to him; from close
to his heart, to be loved by him, and to be protected by him. I pray this is
the reality we will have in all our marriages in Jesus name, amen.
