Submitting to Authority

Hello everyone--- How are you? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His goodness, His faithfulness, and His love. The Bible tells us that: Primary Text “Be submissive to every human institution and authority for the sake of the Lord, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, Or to governors as sent by Him to bring vengeance (punishment, justice) to those who do wrong and to encourage those who do good service.” 1 Peter 2v13-14 (AMP) Our God reigns above and supreme. But He is also a God of order. He recognizes authority – parents as over children, kings, governors as rulers over the land e.t.c. As children of God, He wants us to honor and respect human institutions and authority’s. Sometimes we may thing they are unfair or unwise, but as unto God and not unto man, we should respect these authorities. Jesus gives an example of such a situation, Matthew 17v24-27 (NIV) saying “After Jesus and His disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t Your teacher pay the temple tax? “Yes, He does,” he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” He asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes – from their own children or from others?” “From others,” Peter answered. “Then the children are exempt,” Jesus said to him.” But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.” Here we see Jesus paying the temple tax, lest He causes offense. Are you submissive to authority? Supplementary Text “They came to Him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because You pay no attention to who they are; but You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we? But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap Me? He asked. “Bring Me a denarius and let Me look at it.” They brought the coin, and He asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s” they replied. Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed at Him.” Mark 12v13-17 (NIV) Father, I thank You for Your word. Please grant me the grace to submit to and respect every human ordinance, and institutions that You have caused me to be under, in Jesus name, amen.
