On the job (2)
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Have you ever felt mistreated, misjudged, insulted on the job? The Bible, speaking to servants says:
Primary Text
“[You who are] household servants, be submissive to your masters with all [proper] respect, not only those who are kind and considerate and reasonable, but also to those who are surly (overbearing, unjust, and crooked). For one is regarded favorably (is approved, acceptable, and trustworthy) if, as in the sight of God, he endures the pain of unjust suffering.” 1 Peter 2v18-19 (AMP)
Have you ever been in a situation of employment where you are working with someone respectable, who appreciates your work, who commends you? It’s nice isn’t it? What if the reverse is the case, and you are working for someone who is unjust, overbearing, crooked, what do you do? What if because of your faith they mistreat you. Remember Joseph, who was a slave Potiphar’s house. The Bible says “And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field.” (Genesis 39v2-5, KJV). But Potiphar’s wife came along, started eyeing him and asking him to lie with her. Genesis 39v8-9 (KJV) says “But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that He hath to my hand: There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this wickedness, and sin against God?” At work, have you been asked to cheat, lie, steal, backbite, do something that might bring temporary pleasure and may not even be noticed, at least not immediately, but would not be right in the sight of the Lord? What is your reaction?
Supplementary Text
"[After all] what kind of glory [is there in it] if, when you do wrong and are punished for it, you take it patiently? But if you bear patiently with suffering [which results] when you do right and that is undeserved, it is acceptable and pleasing to God.” 1 Peter 2v20 (AMP)
Father, we thank You for Your Word this day. We pray for the grace to persevere even in the face of tough situations in our work places in Jesus name, amen.
