Honor all men
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Honour all men….” 1 Peter 2v17 (KJV)
“Show respect to everyone….” 1 Peter 2v17 (NIV)
“Show respect for all men [treat them honorably]…” 1 Peter 2v17 (AMP)
To respect could be defined as “to show regard or consideration for: to respect someone’s rights; to refrain from intruding upon or interfering with: to respect a person’s privacy” (www.dictionary.com). Many of us are familiar with Scripture on honoring our parents. Ephesians 6v2-3 (NLT) saying “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” 1 Peter 2v17 is here telling us to honour all men, and show respect for people. We can show regard and consideration for others even in our manner, our speech, our attitude towards them. Remember 1 Corinthians 13v4-6 (NIV) tells us that “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” And Romans 5v5 (NIV) tells us that “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” God’s love has been poured into our hearts through His Holy Spirit, and this love does not dishonor others. Let us walk in this love towards others – respecting and honoring them. The Holy Spirit is in us and with us and will help us to do this, even as we know it is “… ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.” (Zechariah 4v6, NIV). Even as we abide in Christ and He in us, may we bring forth much fruit to the glory of His name in Jesus name, amen (John 15v5, KJV).
Supplementary Text
“Render to all men their dues. [Pay] taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, and honor to whom honor is due. Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor [who practices loving others] has fulfilled the Law [relating to one’s fellowmen, meeting all its requirements].” Romans 13v7-8 (AMP)
Father, I thank You for Your Word this day. I thank You for You would have me honor all men. I pray for grace and for the empowerment of Your Spirit to do this, regardless of what I see, and feel in Jesus name, amen.
