Fear God
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God…” 1 Peter 2v17 (KJV)
“Show respect for all men [treat them honorably]. Love the brotherhood (the Christian fraternity of which Christ is the Head). Reverence God…” 1 Peter 2v17 (AMP)
“Show respect for all people: Love the brothers and sisters of God’s family, respect God,…” 1 Peter 2v17 (NCV)
It is interesting that the Apostle Peter by inspiration of the Holy Spirit writes to believers that they should fear God. Isaiah 11v1-3 (AMP) tells us about Jesus, and mentions that “And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him – the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord – ” I want the Spirit of the fear of the Lord to rest upon me. Proverbs 16v6 (KJV) tells us that “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” While Proverbs 19v23 (AMP) says “The reverent worshipful fear of the Lord leads to life, and he who has it rests satisfied; he cannot be visited with [actual] evil.” God is our Father, and He loves us, but we should still reverence Him. Many of us have parents and older people whom we are close to and joke with, but we also respect them. We know there is a time for joke, and a time to be obedient. In fact, many of us do not like to be disrespected or taken for granted. How much more with God? Malachi 1v6 (NIV) says “A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due Me? If I am a master, where is the respect due Me?” says the LORD Almighty. “It is you priests who show contempt for My name.
But you ask, ‘How have we shown contempt for Your name?’
Supplementary Text
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12v13 (KJV)
Father, we thank You for Your Word. Father in anyway we have been disrespectful to You, please show us, forgive us, and help us to honor You in everyway. As Psalm 86v11 says, we pray today “Teach me Your way, LORD, that I may rely on Your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name.” in Jesus name we pray, amen.
