Realizing freely given things
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Now
we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy]
Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and
appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly]
bestowed on us by God.” 1 Corinthians 2v12 (AMP)
One
question this verse raises is how does the Spirit of God help us to know the
things God has freely given us. From the emphasis made in the Amplified
version, we see that He enables us to “realize” the gifts of divine favor and
blessing so freely and lavishly bestowed on us. To realize could mean “to grasp
or understand clearly; to make real; give reality to (a hope, fear, plan, etc);
to bring vividly to the mind …; to become conscious or aware of (something)” (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/realize?s=t). As believers, through Scripture, we
become aware of the things God has given to us. But prophecies of Scripture
were written by men who were inspired by the Spirit of God, even as 1 Peter
1v20-21 (AMP) says “[Yet] first [you must] understand this, that no prophecy of
Scripture is [a matter] of any personal or private special interpretation
(loosening, solving). For no prophecy ever originated because some man willed
it [to do so – it never came by human impulse], but men spoke from God who were
borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit.” Furthermore, the Holy
Spirit teaches us all things, and brings to remembrance what the Lord Jesus has
said to us (John 16v13). Again 1 John 2v27 (NLT) says “But you have received
the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you
what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what
He teaches is true – it is not a lie. So just as He has taught you, remain in
fellowship with Christ.” 1 John 2v27 (NLT). Through the work of the Spirit in
inspiring prophecy of Scripture, and teaching us all things, reminding us of
the words of Jesus, we get to know, to realize the things freely given to us of
God.
Supplementary Text
“Howbeit
when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He
shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak:
and He will shew you things to come.” John 16v13 (KJV)
Prayer
Heavenly
Father, we thank You for Your Word and for Your Spirit. We pray that we would
be guided into all the truth and shown things to come in the future even by
Your Spirit. Holy Spirit we pray for a deep and intimate fellowship with you in
Jesus name, amen.
