Who’s in control?
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Let
not sin therefore rule as king in your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies,
to make you yield to its cravings and be subject to its lusts and evil
passions. Do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members [and
faculties] to sin as instruments (tools) of wickedness. But offer and yield
yourselves to God as though you have been raised from the dead to [perpetual]
life, and your bodily members [and faculties] to God, presenting them as
implements of righteousness.” Romans 6v12-13 (AMP).
Beloved,
as children of God, we are no longer subject to sin’s control, and we do not
need to yield to its lusts and passions. Now, being a Christian does not mean
that temptations would go away, but it means that we do not need to succumb to them.
In fact, through the Holy Spirit we can live a life that is victorious over sin
and pleases God. Romans 8v5 (TLB) says that “Those who let
themselves be controlled by their lower natures live only to please themselves,
but those who follow after the Holy Spirit find themselves doing those things
that please God.” The Bible also lets us know that we should look at ourselves
as dead to sin, and if you are dead to something, it no longer has any
influence over you.
Supplementary Text
“Well
then, shall we keep on sinning so that God can keep on showing us more and more
kindness and forgiveness? Of course not! Should we keep on sinning when we
don’t have to? For sin’s power over us was broken when we became Christians and
were baptized to become a part of Jesus Christ; through His death the power of
your sinful nature was shattered. Your old sin-loving nature was buried with
Him by baptism when He died; and when God the Father, with glorious power,
brought Him back to life again, you were given His wonderful new life to
enjoy.” Romans 6v1-4 (TLB)
Prayer
Our
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the salvation of our souls. We worship You
because we have been made new creatures in Christ Jesus. We repent of any way
in which we have been giving members of our bodies as instruments of
unrighteousness and give ourselves completely to You to be used for the glory
of Your name. We thank You and bless You in Jesus name we pray, amen.
