Overcoming Tactics (4)

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Hope you had a very wonderful Sunday. We thank God for His amazing grace. He is faithful and He is true to His Word. Now, one of the ways we can actually win certain challenges, is (believe it or not), simply to abstain, not to go there. And this is Biblical!

Primary Text: 1 Thessalonians 5v22,
“Abstain from all appearance of evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5v22 (KJV)
“and stay away from everything that is evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5v22 (New Century Version)
“Stay away from every kind of evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5v22 (New Living Translation)

Basically, if it looks evil, stay away from it. Move away from it, don’t even get involved or go near there. This would prevent you from a lot of pain, and help you win a battle that probably should not have been started in the first place. There are a number of things that the Bible tells us to flee from. These include fornication, idolatry, and youthful lusts. We see a perfect example of fleeing literarily, in the life of Joseph where his master’s wife kept asking to sleep with him.

Subsidiary Texts: Genesis 39v10-12, 1 Corinthians 6v18, 1 Corinthians 10v14, 2 Timothy 2v2, Proverbs 17v14
“And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.” Genesis 39v10-12

“Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” 1 Corinthians 6v18

“Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.” 1 Corinthians 10v14

“Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 2 Timothy 2v2

“The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.” Proverbs 17v14

Even as we read our Bibles, let’s keep an eye out for the things that God says explicitly to flee from, and practice them.

Have a very blessed day.

Prayer
Father, we thank You for Your Word. We pray that even as we see Your will as to what we should abstain from, that You will grant us the grace and the courage to do so, in Jesus name, amen.
