Overcomer (2)
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for watching over us. He is indeed good.
Primary Text: Romans 12v21
“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12v21 (KJV)
How can one conquer evil with good? How does defeating evil with good look? It surely is different from overcoming evil with evil, or doing a tit-for-tat. We see an example of doing this when Jesus tells us to love not just those who love us, which is easy to do, but to love even our enemies.
Subsidiary texts: Luke 6v27-35, 1 Corinthians 13v8
“But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you.
Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.
If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also.
Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back.
Do to others as you would like them to do to you.
“If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them!
And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much!
And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return.
“Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for He is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.
You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.” Luke 6v27-35 (New Living Translation)
“Charity never faileth:…” 1 Corinthians 13v8
Basically, we are to act as children of the Most High, as children of God. And God is good. Even when people are unthankful and ungrateful, He is still kind to them. So some practical ways to overcome evil with good are shown here. For instance, if someone curses you, you bless them. If they hurt you, you pray for them. If they slap you, wellll, you turn the other cheek, and may you be blessed as you do so in Jesus name, amen.
Have a very blessed day.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the grace to love as You would have us do in Jesus name, amen.
