Overcoming Tactics

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His mercies, His grace, His love for us, and for counsel. There are different ways in which victory can be guaranteed in a war, if one is to be an overcomer; our faith and belief in Jesus as the Son of God already guaranteeing that we are overcomers. One of the ways through which a battle is won, or lost, is dependent on the counsel or advice one heeds to or follows.

Primary Text: Proverbs 24:6
“For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.” Proverbs 24:6 (KJV)

Note that there is counsel that is wise, and that which is not wise. In the Bible, for example, we see people who heeded to wise counsel, like Ruth following the counsel of Naomi (see Ruth 3), Peter following that of Jesus to cast his net into the sea (Luke 5v4-8), and Esther following the counsel of Mordecai when he encouraged her to go to the king on behalf of the Jews (See Esther 4). On the other hand, we see people like Ahab the king, who heeded to the advice of his wife, and forcefully took over the vineyard of Naboth (see 1 Kings 21).

As believers, we should learn to discern and heed to wise counsel, remembering also that in the multitude of counselors, safety is guaranteed. Access critically the life of the person who is giving you the counsel. Are they God fearing? Have they succeeded in the area of which they are counseling you on? It is very okay not to take to certain counsel, when you perceive they are not wise, and may not glorify God.

Subsidiary Texts: 2 Chronicles 22v3, Psalm 1v1, Proverbs 1v5
“He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.” 2 Chronicles 22v3

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,…” Psalm 1v1

“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:” Proverbs 1v5

Have a very blessed day.

Prayer
Father, thank You for Your Word. Father, please help me to discern between wise and foolish counsels. Please in the time of war, surround me with godly counselors. Grant me the grace, to heed to wise counsel O Lord, and let Your name alone be glorified in my life now and evermore, in Jesus name, amen.
