Citizens of Heaven

Hello everybody,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His great love for us and for being a great Father to us.

Primary Text – Philippians 3v20
“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3v20 (KJV)

“But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Saviour.” Philippians 3v20 (NLT)

“But we are citizens of the state (commonwealth, homeland) which is in heaven, and from it also we earnestly and patiently await [the coming of] the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [as] Savior.” Philippians 3v20 (AMP)

I have an aunt that will say I am a citizen of heaven, assembled in Nigeria J People become citizens of a particular country in different ways. In most, if you are born in the country, you become a citizen and you get the passport of that country. For some others, it is not as easy. A person might be a citizen of one country, but be living in another, just as Christians are citizens of heaven but are still here on earth. Being a citizen of a country confers certain rights and privileges to a person, which a non-citizen might not enjoy. For instance, a citizen can usually enter freely into their country, without having to get a visa, being able to work without a permit e.t.c. As citizens of heaven, we also have certain rights and privileges, for instance, bold access to the throne of grace, where we can obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4v16), and being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5v1). Now, in most countries, citizens have certain obligations conferred on them, e.g. payment of taxes. As citizens of heaven, we are ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5v20), preach the gospel (Matthew 28v18-20) and we are expected to bring forth fruit and remain connected to the Vine who is Jesus (John 15v5).

Supplementary Texts

“Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven.” Acts 1v11

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together in Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2v4-6

Have a very blessed day.

Prayer

Father in the name of Jesus, I pray I never renounce my citizenship either through my words or my actions in Jesus name, amen.
