Put to test

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for seeing us to then end of the month of July. 5 more months to go in 2010. The Bible tells us “Only simpletons believe everything they’re told! The prudent carefully consider their steps.” Proverbs 14v15. So what is one thing we should do as Christians:

Primary Text – 1 Thessalonians 5v21
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5v21 (KJV)
“but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5v21 (NLT)
“But test everything. Keep what is good,” 1 Thessalonians 5v21 (NCV)
“But test and prove all things [until you can recognize] what is good; [to that] hold fast.” 1 Thessalonians 5v21 (AMP)
“On the other hand, don’t be gullible. Check our everything, and keep only what’s good.” 1 Thessalonians 5v21 (The Message)

Beloved, don’t be gullible, and don’t have itchy ears. We see the Bereans in the Bible, who would go back to check the scriptures daily to see if the word they were told was true. What are you hearing? What things are people telling you? What business proposition, or partnership has been put forth to you? Prove it yourself. It is a wonderful thing that we have the Word of God to confer with, as well as the Spirit of God to guide us. What does God say about the matter? It is a wonderful thing that we can pray about different issues, and ask God to speak to us concerning the right way to go. We see how Israel, under the leadership of Joshua was deceived in the Bible by the Gibeonites, and this deception was successful because they took not counsel from God (Joshua 9). Always seek the Lord’s counsel and His guidance.

Supplementary Texts
“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.” Acts 17v11-12

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12v2

“And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD. And Joshua made peace with them, and made a league with them, to let them live: and the princes of the congregation sware unto them.” Joshua 9v14&15

Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word. Father we pray in Jesus name for a spirit of discernment to know between good and evil. We pray that we will not judge after what we see or hear, but we will be quick to seek Your counsel on every issue, in Jesus name, amen.
