Sharing in His death…

Hello everybody,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His great love for us, and His mercies that endure forever. We thank Him because though we have challenges, we are assured of victory in Him.

Primary Text: Philippians 3v10
“…, being made conformable unto His death.” Philippians 3v10 (KJV)

“… as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope]” Philippians 3v10 (AMP)

“…, sharing in His death.” Philippians 3v10 (NLT)

What does it mean to share in the Lord’s death, and why would Paul want to be made conformable unto His death? What did the death of Jesus signify or symbolize for us? Paul says I die daily (1 Corinthians 15v31), and that I have been crucified with Christ (Galatians 2v20), and yet we know that Paul himself did not literally die on the cross when Jesus did. However, we see in Romans 6, that as believers, we are said to be baptized into the death of Christ, when we are baptized into Jesus Christ, that is, when we joined with Christ by baptism, we also joined Him in His death (v3). What are the implications of this? The same way Jesus died, and then was resurrected, we believe that as we have died with Christ, we have become dead to sin, and can now live new lives.

Supplementary Verses
“In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but in a [spiritual] circumcision [performed by] Christ by stripping off the body of the flesh (the whole corrupt, carnal nature with its passions and lusts). [Thus you were circumcised when] you were buried with Him in [your] baptism, in which you were also raised with Him [to a new life] through [your] faith in the working of God [as displayed] when He raised Him up from the dead. And you who were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (your sensuality, your sinful carnal nature), [God] brought to life together with [Christ], having freely forgiven us all our transgressions, Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross.” Colossians 2v11-14 (AMP)

“For [as far as this world is concerned] you have died, and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God, When Christ, Who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in [the splendor of His] glory.” Colossians 3v3-4 (AMP)

Prayer
Father, we thank You indeed for the power of resurrection, and our life being hid in Christ. May we indeed be truly conformed to the image of our Lord Jesus Christ in Jesus name we pray, amen.

And perhaps you do not even know Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, and you want to have a relationship with Him. The Bible says:

“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10v9-10

You can say this prayer: Heavenly Father, I come to You today, confessing that I am a sinner. I am sorry for all that I have done and ask that You forgive me for all of my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Lord Jesus, I ask that You be Lord and Saviour over my life. I believe that You came to die for my sins, and that God raised You from the dead. Thank You Father for translating me out of the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Your dear Son. Thank You for sealing me with Your Holy Spirit of promise. Please keep me till the end in You, and may Your Name alone be glorified in my life, in Jesus name I pray, amen.

If you said this prayer today, know that you are now a child of God and that there is much jubilation in heaven because of you. Begin to attend a Bible-believing church, and keep the faith! Welcome into God’s family.
